  4. Hi mischa!

In your Opinion, is the music you chose interesting?
And how would you describe Jhonny Cash?
    :)

  5. Johnny Cash was one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century.

    ReplyDelete
  6. He had three wives.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Most of his songs were written from his childhood memories. For example his song "5 feet high and rising" was about how his family's farm was flooded on numerous occasions.

    ReplyDelete
  8. He really had THREE wives? Um, did two die or something?

    ReplyDelete
  9. He began composing music at age 12.

    ReplyDelete
  10. He was a bit of a train wreck so i don't know, i guess his marriages weren't to successful.

    ReplyDelete
  11. That's really odd. How was he a train wreck? Was he like, on drugs?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Sorry, not to Montesorri...

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yes he was on drugs and who are you?

    ReplyDelete
  14. do you think you are going to still listen to him when the stretch project is over?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Mischa, it's Jonathan (Eyeroll)

    ReplyDelete
  16. I asked because a lot of musicians are on drugs. It's just a fact.

    ReplyDelete
  17. How did his music at age 12 and now differ?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Well when he was 12 i think he just wrote songs he din't really sing them.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Will you guy's stop talking about drugs.

    ReplyDelete
  20. What is your favorit song so far? Is johnny cash still alive?

    ReplyDelete
  21. hey isabella! did johnny cash play like folk music or country music? i personally am not a big country music person (no offense) so i would not know who cash is. what kind of insturment(s) does he play- guitar, banjo, drums, piano, kazoo...?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Tell us more about the music, Mischa! What song is your favorite? Johnny Cash has such a distinctive voice. Even if you don't listen to country music, you'd probably recognize his voice.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Why did you pick Johnny Cash in the first place? What kind of music does he play? What instruments does he play or does he just sing?

    ReplyDelete
  24. What do you like about Johnny Cash, i mean other then his face. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. my favorite song is "25 minutes to go" and i love listening to it because its so funny. (you kind of have to listen to it to get why its funny).

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hmm.

Mischa, what is the name of your album?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Are you going to share "25 minutes to go" with the class? I don't think I've heard that one before.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I will share "25 minutes to go" with the class. the nae of my album is "folsom prison"

    ReplyDelete
  29. ooooooops sorry about the typo hannah.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I like twenty-five minutes to go, the lyrics ARE really funny! Have you ever listened to A Boy Named Sue? Yes, I know that is an incredibly strange title for a song, but it is still really hilarious! I think that you'll like it. Here are the lyrics:
Well, my daddy left home when I was three
And he didn't leave much to Ma and me
Just this old guitar and an empty bottle of booze
Now, I don't blame him 'cause he run and hid
But the meanest thing that he ever did
Was before he left, he went and named me 'Sue'

Well, he must o' thought that is was quite a joke
And it got a lot of laughs from a' lots of folk
It seems I had to fight my whole life through
Some gal would giggle and I'd get red
And some guy'd laugh and I'd bust his head
I tell ya, life ain't easy for a boy named 'Sue'

Well, I grew up quick and I grew up mean
My fist got hard and my wits got keen
I'd roam from town to town to hide my shame
But I made me a vow to the moon and stars
That I'd search the honky-tonks and bars
And kill that man that gave me that awful name

Well, it was Gatlinburg in mid-July
And I just hit town and my throat was dry
I thought I'd stop and have myself a brew
At an old saloon on a street of mud
There at a table, dealing stud
Sat the dirty, mangy dog that named me 'Sue'

Well, I knew that snake was my own sweet dad
From a worn-out picture that my mother'd had
And I knew that scar on his cheek and his evil eye
He was big and bent and gray and old
And I looked at him and my blood ran cold
And I said, "My name is 'Sue' How do you do Now you gonna die"

Yeah, that's what I told him

Well, I hit him hard right between the eyes
And he went down but, to my surprise
He come up with a knife and cut off a piece of my ear
But I busted a chair right across his teeth
And we crashed through the wall and into the street
Kicking and a' gouging in the mud and the blood and the beer

I tell ya, I've fought tougher men
But I really can't remember when
He kicked like a mule and he bit like a crocodile
I heard him laugh and then I heard him cuss
He went for his gun and I pulled mine first
He stood there lookin' at me and I saw him smile

And he said, "Son, this world is rough
And if a man's gonna make it, he's gotta be tough
And I know I wouldn't be there to help ya along
So I give ya that name and I said good-bye
I knew you'd have to get tough or die
And it's that name that helped to make you strong"

He said, "Now you just fought one hell of a fight
And I know you hate me, and you got the right
To kill me now, and I wouldn't blame you if you do
But ya ought to thank me, before I die
For the gravel in ya guts and the spit in ya eye
'Cause I'm the son-of-a-***** that named you 'Sue'"

Yeah, but what could I do, what could I do

I got all choked up and I threw down my gun
And I called him my pa, and he called me his son
And I come away with a different point of view
And I think about him, now and then
Every time I try and every time I win
And if I ever have a son, I think I'm gonna name him...
Bill or George, any DARNED thing but 'Sue' I still hate that name.
Okay, sorry. The lyrics are really long. But aren't they hilarious? I like Johnny Cash. I think his writing is better than his singing, but he is pretty good at both, and I haven't listened to him in a while. I really like the perspective this song has, I wonder what inspired him to write it. I took out the swears...

    ReplyDelete
  31. i love that song and are you jon k because i can only think of him writing this lng a post on my blog.

    ReplyDelete
  32. That is really amusing, because I was just reading the other comments, and I would think something about one of the comments, and then I would scroll down a little and see that Jon posted exactly what I thought. It was kind of weird...
Sorry, this is Amelia. I do not know why I am posting here, I guess I just got bored with the MS one.
Glad you like that song too!

    ReplyDelete
  33. What Instruments does Johnny Cash play.

    ReplyDelete
  34. SPARROWHAWK IS JON. I AM SPARROWHAWK. GET IT? THOSE LYRICS ARE FUNNY.
NO, I WILL NOT GET YOUR PENCIL OR BOOK OR FOLDER.

  35. Johnny Cash died on September 12, 2003, at the age of 71.
And yes, that is the day after the 9:11, when the world trade center was attacked.
What a wonderful note to end your life on... (Meant to be read in a sarcastic way, but not with irreverent sarcasm.)

I really like "Boy Named Sue." It is hilarious.

    ReplyDelete
  36. "Boy Named Sue" is pretty bizarre and amusing. Mischa, what do you usually do while listening to your music? Have you tried doing something new?

    ReplyDelete
  37. what happen to those 30 comments?
    do you like jhonny cash?

    ReplyDelete
  38. johnny cash is dead

    ReplyDelete
  39. his wife June sang with him and played one of those things with lots of buttons.

    ReplyDelete
  40. when i listen to music i read, do home work and lie on the couch.

    ReplyDelete
  41. to answer all your questions
SRV produced music in the early eighties until 1990 when he died :(
I am pretty sure he plays mainly guitar but he might play some other instunments I don't know about. he does sing.
and finally, I think that stevie ray von plays blues like no one else does. i think he is the best guitarist of all time and he improvises like no one else I know did or does

    ReplyDelete
  42. Wait, what thing with lots of buttons? Like, an airplane? Or a washing machine? A SWEATER?

On second thought, airplanes, washing machines and sweaters provide very poor musical accompaniment, so it is unlikely that June played any of these. Never mind.

And was June his first, second, or third wife?

    ReplyDelete
  43. June was his third wife and the thing with lots of button was an instrument and it had the kind of buttons that are used in elevators.

    ReplyDelete
  44. first buttons, then sweaters and now elevator, what next?

    ∫’:-)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Johnny Cash's third wife provided musical accompaniment for his songs with an ELEVATOR???

...Don't worry. I'm not THAT stupid.
I think I might no what you are talking about too... Is it the thing with the... The instrument with the... You know, the instrument with lot's of buttons?

    CONCERTINA!!!
    Maybe not, never mind...

    ReplyDelete
  46. ELEVATOR!!!????
who would, how would, and how can you WASTE YOUR TIME making MUSCIAL ACCOMPANIMENT by using an elevetor? I totally agree with you Mischa! Johnny Cash is a train wreck! (I sound like Jack don't I?) :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. There was once a band in New York that had twelve members. All used type writers for instruments.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I have heard of Regrigerators, and plastic containers and stuff, but never ELEVATORS.
    And especially never TYPEWRITERS.
But you never know. I kind of like it, actually. Pretty inventive.
But I don't think that either me or Mischa meant that June actually used an elevator for an instrument. You never know though...

    ReplyDelete
  49. OK. so after watching "walk the line" which is supposed to be very realistic i kind of now get his life a little bit more.

    ReplyDelete
  50. he left his first wife because he was in love with june carter.

    ReplyDelete
  51. he was very addicted to a kind illegal pills.

  52. hid went to Folsom prison in one point of his life.

    ReplyDelete
  53. naughty, naughty.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I like the Genre I think it's cool just because of some of the cool instruments Earth Wind And Fire use

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'm not listing to an Album I just listen to the music on my Ipod

    ReplyDelete
  56. To answer your question Isabella,(I think you were talking about SRV) Stevie Ray Vaughan wasn't blind but he wore sunglasses sometimes. He died in 1990 when he was 35 so he was sort of young I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Earth wind and fire are pretty different then what I usually listen to.

    ReplyDelete
  58. 35 is super young to die. That is so sad!!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Thanks for all your thoughts on Johnny Cash, Isabella! I also loved the list of songs you suggested to me over April break. I listened to them all on youtube, and they were great! What kind of music will you explore next?
