hi everyone! I'm listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan (Vaughan pronounced "von". I think he is the best guitar player ever! He is so good I don't want to call him "crazy" or insane.
Stevie Ray Vaughan (1954-1990) was born in Oak Cliff, Texas. He died in 1990 in East Troy, Wisconsin in a helicopter accident. He was stellar at the guitar and had a decent voice. He had worked with many other profesionals such as Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, Jeff Healey, and his brother Jimmie. He played blues. In 2007, the Classic Rock magazine ranked him number 3 out of the hundred best guitarists. I think he was the best guitarist ever. Now, he is definitely my favorite guitarist and I have been only listening to him for a few weeks.
Hi Virginia! I'm so glad you're enjoying SRV! His music is amazing. I don't listen to it very often, so it would probably be a good stretch project for me some time in the future. Let us know where you found your information about him.
It is a strange fact, isn't it? I guess musicians are more likely to be in small planes/helicopters, and I think those are more prone to accidents than commercial airliners. Still, it's sort of eerie . . .
I am listening to him now. Great electric guitar! It is really upbeat. I think that it would be good to dance to. It has good vocals as well. It is hard to hear the lyrics. Maybe there just aren't many lyrics. The guitar is great though! I used to think that you couldn't make a song interesting with only instruments, and that you had to have good lyrics too, but he is doing great with hardly any lyrics at all. I really like it! Fun.
Virginnnnnniiiiiiaaaaaaa . . . where aaaaaaare you??????
Amelia, that's a cool factoid. I didn't know that either, but it doesn't surprise me. I like both SRV & John Mayer a lot. I listen to John Mayer way more than SRV, but I'd like to get more into SRV at some point. Maybe a stretch project for next year!
I like John Mayer too. I think my favorite is "Bigger than my Body." I like "Waiting on the World to Change" too. "Dreaming with a Broken Heart" is severely depressing (though not nearly as depressing as "As the Footsteps Die Out Forever," which is Streetlight. It is about his mother dying of cancer.) I would like to listen to more SRV as well. I am currently enjoying listening to Tokio Hotel (only the German ones, English is boring) and Rage Against the Machine (great protest lyrics--Ian's) and Paramore (lyrics are not the best, not sure if I understand them, but it is fun to listen to, and good to sing along to as well... I miss my Mexican host student! She loved them.) I am also listening to Jason Mraz. And the Black Eyed Peas. And Seal. Yeah, lot's of stretches... I like most music though, so it is fun.
hi guys this is a song that Stevie Ray Vaughan performed in concert. It's called "scuttle buttin" we listened to it in music class but it happens to be my current favorite song by SRV. copy this site into youre browser and watch the video!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uEwJ-VXsTc
Cool! I didn't know he did a song called "Testify" as well! Ian's Stretch Project band has a song called "Testify." Stevie Ray Vaughan is an AMAZING guitarist! Of course, I'm one to know... I am still fumbling over the chords for Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours..."
Hi Everyone! I have shared my music with all the members in my family and we all agreed that Steve Ray Vaughan is an INCREDIBLE guitarist. My parents have also listened to SRV before on their own so they tell me all this cool stuff about SRV. Did you know that Steve Ray Vaughan was a hippie and he sometimes smoked a pipe while playing his guitar in concerts???!!!!?!
Oh and Amelia you are so right John Mayer is so cool! I like most of his songs. His music is modern but it is nice quality modern- not cheesy modern music.
THAT IS SOOO COOL! The only person I have seen in concert is Antje Duvekot, and no-one knows who the heck she is. No one can pronounce her name either. It is really quite depressing... Me and Mia were GOING to go to John Mayer's favorite cafe in Malibu and try to sell him some raffle tickets, but then we realized that we didn't HAVE raffle tickets to sell him, and my mother also wouldn't drive us to Malibu, so that didn't work out. But I did listen to Streetlight Manifesto in the car for the first time then, so that is good. That is how I decided to listen to it for my Stretch.
That is really cool Jake. Where did you see him? Oh, TD Banknorth Garden... Why don't I just pretend I know where that is. I love Waiting on the World to Change too. I think my favorite is Bigger than my Body. Then I don't Trust Myself with Loving You. He is awesome.
I don't really like gravity. I like Waiting on a world to change and neon. Well actually, neon is getting on my nerves because SOMEONE can't stop SINGING it in class!!!!!
I am STILL commenting! What would you like me to say? Okay, since we aren't really getting credit for this anyways, and we will feel obligated to discuss music and I would like to have freedom to discuss other things, there is only one solution. JOIN. MY. BLOG. !!! http://gravitationalacceleration98mssquared.blogspot.com/
Oh. I can't POSSIBLY IMAGINE who THAT must be. He-he... You know shockingly, I don't even think I have HEARD Neon. WOW. And thank god this is a blog and Jon can't burst into song on a blog. Well, I don't think he can...
"Monologue," "Cesario" and "Molly" and "SparrowHawk" and "Grace-is-Wildfire" and "Ian" and "Night-Hawk (black dog)" are on my blog now. You should join too, because people check it much more often.
oh and by the way HI Virginia!
ReplyDeleteHow would you describe some of the music you are listening to by Stevie Ray Voughan?
what kind of music does Stevie Ray Vaughn play?

ReplyDeleteVirginia, if you're interested, David Bowie is pretty good. I'd listen to some David Bowie music.
ReplyDeleteso many musicians die in air transportation accidents.
ReplyDeleteWhy???
I don't know. Why was SRV in a helicopter anyways?
ReplyDeleteIt is a strange fact, isn't it? I guess musicians are more likely to be in small planes/helicopters, and I think those are more prone to accidents than commercial airliners. Still, it's sort of eerie . . .
ReplyDeleteWhat's your favorite song by SRV?
ReplyDeleteMusicians should try taking water transportation. I don't here of that very often. I guess it is because Planes/Helicopters are faster.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am also thinking that Planes/Helicopters gives them a break from tourist.
ReplyDeleteTourist can get very tiring after a few months of being followed around. (I am not saying this from experience, [Obviously] but from guessing)
ReplyDeleteAnd a repeat of Jon's Q.
ReplyDeleteWhat is you favorite song by SRV (Stevie Ray Vaughan)-(I am assuming you already know the acronym.)
Good thoughts, Collins. Where did Virginia go??

ReplyDeleteMy mother told me last night that Stevie Ray Vaughan was the person who inspired John Mayer to pursue music. I thought that was really cool.
